Do You Believe in God?

Vittoria was watching him. “Do you believe in God, Mr. Langdon?” The question startled him. The earnestness in Vittoria’s voice was even more disarming than the inquiry. Do I believe in God? He had hoped for a lighter topic of conversation to pass the trip.

A spiritual conundrum, Langdon thought. That’s what my friends call me. Although he studied religion for years, Langdon was not a religious man. He respected the power of faith, the benevolence of churches, the strength religion gave so many people . . . and yet, for him, the intellectual suspension of disbelief that was imperative if one were truly going to “believe” had always proved too big an obstacle for his academic mind. “I want to believe,” he heard himself say.

Vittoria’s reply carried no judgment or challenge. “So why don’t you?”

He chuckled. “Well, it’s not that easy. Having faith requires leaps of faith, cerebral acceptance of miracles-immaculate conceptions and divine interventions. And then there are the codes of conduct. The Bible, the Koran, Buddhist scripture . . . they all carry similar requirements-and similar penalties. They claim that if I don’t live by a specific code I will go to hell. I can’t imagine a God who would rule that way.”

“I hope you don’t let your students dodge questions that shamelessly.”

The comment caught him off guard. “What?”

“Mr. Langdon, I did not ask if you believe what man says about God. I asked if you believed in God. There is a difference. Holy scripture is stories . . . legends and history of man’s quest to understand his own need for meaning. I am not asking you to pass judgment on literature. I am asking if you believe in God. When you lie out under the stars, do you sense the divine? Do you feel in your gut that you are staring up at the work of God’s hand?”

– Angels and Demons, Dan Brown

Hello wonderful Bloggers!

How are you? I hope you are enjoying your every single second.

I’ve once asked all of you- Do You Believe in God?

And the response was quite amazing! I am really glad you participated in it.

I’ve read this book and what I can say about this book is simply – Wow!

This is the first book I’ve read from Dan Brown and it completely amazed me. Even though the book looks a bit fat (motu) but you just need to start reading the first chapter and you will find yourself asking for more and more! This is such an awesome book. Even though the movie is quite amazing too but you should accept this, books are more amazing!

A request: I know many of my readers have read this book and I know they will be excited to comment about the book. You are free to do so BUT keep this thing in your mind very clearly that none of you post any Spoilers, please (Even though I am the moderator, but still I don’t like dis-approving people’s comments). I don’t want anyone reading this post regrets coming here.

By the way, I wold like to share something with you. If you’re my regular reader then you must be knowing that my school is having Diwali week celebration and for that, they gave us an art kit in which there were: Painting colours, A brush, and a sand painting cloth on which we were supposed to fill the colours. Me and my elder sister did it together and it was really fun.

How is it Looking?

Let me know what you felt about this post. I would love to read your commments on this topic and again, No spoilers. Don’t forget to comment even if you forget to like.

But wait, There’s a serious issue going all around the world. Many of us neglect simple things happening around us and we don’t think about the impact they make into our lives.

So Today’s issue is: What would happen if all the cats go an a strike demanding a new country to live in?

Trust me, This is a very serious topic. I would love to know your views about it.

Have a wonderful day!

See you soon!

🙂

  1. Dan Brown is one of those few authors that make me want to go to the places in their stories and see the things that inspired them. I can not imagine that Brown did not visit some of the places he writes about. There is so much love and understanding in the architecture and culture he describes. And the music or writing quoted, I find myself looking it up and sampling it for myself. Only the most talented authors do that for me. Beyond Brown try Michael Crichton, Douglas Preston, Lincoln Child. (The last two write together and apart)

    1. Yeah, he described the beautiful architecture in Rome so perfectly. It was as if he actually experienced it…
😊😊 Thank you so much for reading it!
Btw, what are your views on today’s issue? (At the end of the post)

      1. Hmm what would happen if the worlds cats wanted their own country? Well the rodent and bird populations would grow. And if we did give them their own country they would each want a slave to feed them and be around for tummy rubs. However, since most cats are fickle no one would want to share and we would end up giving them each their own island. Maybe we should send them all to Mars!

  2. Dan Brown is one of the finest authors I know. Nice post.
And if the cats go on strike I guess we should grant them a new country 😀 It would be fun visiting them on vacations 😀 They’ll enjoy their lives and same for us. We’ll meet in vacations when either we visit them or viceversa 😀

Now coming to our today’s issue- I am really glad someone want to grant them their own country…
You know the most interesting thing will be to see their own built monuments like Cat Taj Mahal and kitten statues all over the city…
      Hahaha
Aa good idea, to spend your holidays…

  3. I am not religious I am agnostic. I believe in karma. I loved your writing skills and the price of art. With regard to god I am yet to explore on that. I do believe in doing good and avoiding bad behaviour as much as possible

I am really glad that you liked it.
I really like the concept of “karma” because of its simplicity. If you do something good or bad, it will come to you…

  4. Angels & Demons is a book I’ve thoroughly enjoyed reading. The Da-Vinci Code was also very good. The way Dan Brown has written about the churches and the architecture it Rome has made me want to go and visit them once in my life, and I don’t even belong to that faith!
I believe in God…the one we have inside us. I’ve been raised with idol worship and I believe in that too. Having said that, I truly believe that a person needs to use his judgement and faith to decide what is right or wrong.

    1. Yeah, you are so right Di.
Because sometimes in the name of God, we don’t even ask ourselves that if the thing we are doing is right or wrong, is it matching with out beliefs and sense or not…
Thank you Di for reading this and sharing your views…
By the way, what do you think about today’s issue? (At the end of the post)

      1. Oh yes I very well know. I hate that cartoon. The idiot Nobita gets into trouble and it removes something magical from his pocket and solves it. My son loved it but I made him stop seeing it. It was a bad lesson for an impressionable mind. 😡

Pata hai, ek din mera beta mere paas aaya aur mujhe bolta hai…mumma kya aap meri dost banogi. That was apparently what those jerks asked Shizouka, but that was for being a girlfriend. I found that out later. What these people show in cartooms nowadays yaar!

  7. To answer your question about cats starting their own country: I think it would be very interesting. Cats can be very territorial so I can only imagine all the “cat-fighting” that would occur! I would be sad if all the cats left to start their own country. I love cats…I have 5 of my own…plus there are several that run around my neighborhood that I have gotten attached to.

But as you said it would be very interesting and more interesting will be to visit their own country… Catatopia… 😂😂😂
Animals always find a way to get us attached to them… 😊

  8. Do I believe in god? I question this to myself everyday. The answer I am still finding. I am a believer, believer in the universe, in spirituality and yet at the end does He exist or dis he ever exist is too difficult for me to answer. I asked this to my mother once and she gave me this simple answer, “You breathe and that is the proof of the existence of God.” It was just a take of a person who blindly has faith in Him and who believes that He is there above us all. But after that day I have never been able to question God’s existence though knowing that He is truly there somewhere would be good 😉

    1. That’s really nice…
Maybe this is all because of Faith, that we chose to believe upon it and then we get accustomed to it and ultimately accept it as a truth, even if it may be truth or not…
Thank you so much for reading this post. I am really glad you shared your views…
