Blue Watery Eyes! #10

“Hello Ma’am, but it’s afternoon.” Jason said with a frown.

“Afternoon for me, Morning for you…” and she started her witch’s laughing.

“Just ignore her.” Ash whispered in Jason’s ear and finally they reached their destination.

Just in front, two stalls after Miss Malise’s Meat Shop, was “Gargabell’s Grocery Store” They both took a breath of relief after they dropped their bags from their back to the ground. As soon as they entered the store saying in unison “Good Morning, Uncle Gargabell”

A bald head emerged from the cashier’s table and slowly the raised eyebrows showed themselves, and finally the mouth, just below the crooked nose said -“Well, I would have wished you good ‘afternoon’ but knowing that your afternoon won’t be good anymore, I won’t do it. Both of you out and wear those costumes!”

“But dear sir, I don’t think it was our job. Dean and Luke are supposed to wear the costumes today.” Jason said, trying to lower his voice but unfortunately it didn’t come out low.

“It’s Great Mr. Jason that at least you know your jobs. Better remember the timings also next time. Due to Dean and Luke came at perfect 10’o clock, and you special boys came around 4 hours late…” Uncle Gargabell suddenly stopped and continued with her wide eyes, “Oh my special boys, Congratulations to you for you have broken the record of coming late. Sorry, Elle, these guys broke your record of 3 and a half hour.” He said turning his neck toward a girl, sweeping the floor. “So, I suppose both of you know your special prize”

“Great, now stand with that funny costume and sing that (he said something that made Ash elbow him) song in front of the whole market!” Jason said gritting his teeth and went inside the store to change costume.

After few minutes, they both (though no one could identify them) could be found standing on either side of the grocery store’s door. They both were wearing a teddy bear’s costume that had a wooden board around its neck which read “Expect more and Pay less!”

“You know what, Ash” Jason said from the teddy bear’s mouth which appeared as the only space for the air to get in. “Whenever I read this tagline ‘Expect more and Pay less!’ I feel it’s absolutely true. We expect more salary and he pays less.” Jason giggled on his own joke. But Ash was silent, for he was thinking that all was his fault, he neglected his responsibility which made his friend stand in the hot afternoon outside, and that also in that heavy costume.

“I am sorry, Jason. I mean, if I could have come at home soon, we wouldn’t have been late!” Ash replied.

“Couldn’t you think of any other heavier word than ‘sorry’? Well, no need. Actually, even after this ‘punishment’ I am happy that we made a new record of coming late. It’s a great reason for celebration. Don’t you think?” Jason said rather cheerfully. Ash smiled at him, and it appeared as if the two teddy bears were talking to themselves.

“Should I give you the lyrics of the song, in case you forgot it? I want Publicity! Now!” Uncle Gargabell said knocking at the window next to the cashier’s table, even though he was speaking through the glass but his voice was audible.

“Very Very Welcome to Gargabell,

Explore the things, that we sell,

Buy the food that is chosen well,

Feel the freshness as you smell,

Anything else that I need to tell?”

They both sang together to make the song louder in the market’s crowd rush, but with time, their voice began to get slower and slower until a shaky reminder came from the window. “I want Publicity, Now!”
