“Ash, this is not your fault, nor mine. Someone wanted us to be here, at this place, together. Things always happen for a reason, and that reason is always good, you just need to learn how to find that goodness.” She said reassuring him.

Ash did not know what to say; words ended up in his mouth only. He just sat there, wondering how they would get out. “I hope Jason is fine at home,” Ash said.

“You both are best friends, right?” She asked.

“We are more than just best friends, Jason is like my brother. We were together since- I don’t remember. It is like we’ve been together for so long. I know he might be angry with me, I have never been out for so long, at least not without him.” Ash answered.

The night went colder and darker with time. A cool wave of wind blew and tickled the branches of the trees. And suddenly, the whole place fell dead silent. Ash could hear his own heartbeat, it was as if everything had stopped.

Suddenly, a sound came, from somewhere very near them. They both stood up, and looked at each other, they both heard that sound. Ash ignored at first, assuming it as some noise caused by the wind. But again, someone was coming near them, crunching the dry leaves on the ground. Whoever that thing was, it was coming toward them.

Ash looked around himself, he found a broken, thin branch lying on the ground. He ran towards it and picked it up. It was the only thing they had for the sake of their safety.

“We are not alone Ash,” Aurora said in a hushed voice.

Ash came in front of her and faced towards the direction from where the sound of steps was coming. That someone was now coming fast, very fast. Ash was ready, with the branch in his hand, to attack as soon as he senses any danger.  Suddenly, he heard the sound of steps, just passing through him. But no-one was there, Ash did not see anything, except a fainting light very far from them. He looked more carefully, someone was there in front of the light, but whoever it was, was neither running nor coming towards them.

“Alvin!” Aurora shouted in surprise behind him. Ash turned to find her sitting on her knees on the ground, waving her hand in the air above her lap playfully. It took some time, but very soon Ash realized that Alvin was sitting in her lap. Ash let go the broken branch from his hand.

“Ash, see Alvin is here. Now we will be soon at home.” Aurora said cheerfully.

Ash turned around and looked again in the forest. Along with the light, that someone had also disappeared. Ash felt a chill running down his spine, for he knew that they were surely not alone in the forest.
