Enjoy the Path, Not just the Reward!

In my work, I am often asked to teach people how to set and achieve goals. When I ask my aduiences, “Why is it so important that you realize your goals?” they often answer, “Because getting the things I want will make me happy.” While there is an element of truth in this answer – getting the things we want often does bring a measure of joy into our lives – it somehow misses the mark.

The real value of setting and achieving goals lies not in the reward you receive but in the person you become as a result of reaching your goals. This simple distinction has helped me to enjoy the path of the life while, at the same time, staying focused on meeting my personal and professional objective.

As one of my favorite philosophers, Ralph Waldo Emerson, observed, “The reward for a thing well done, is to have done it.”

When you achieve a goal, whether that goal was to be a wise leader or to become a better parent you will have grown as a person in the process. Often, you’ll not be able to detect this growth, but the growth will have occured. So rather than savoring only the rewards that have flowed from the achievement of that goal, celebrate the fact.that the process of reaching your destination has improved the person you are.

You have built self-discipline, discovered new things about your personalities and manifested more of your human potential. These are reward in and of themselves.

I hope you all are doing great. I am awesome, thank you for asking even if you didn’t, haha.

So, this is a book excerpt from the book Who will cry when you Die from Robin Sharma, and I simple adore the tips and ways to live a healthy and worthy life. Give it a read for sure, it is a small pocket book type and very effective.

And yes, we need to talk today and for that we need a topic, so today’s topic is:

*drumbeats* tada!!!

“What would be your reaction if you discovered a tree who can talk?”

I will be waiting for you in the comment’s section, so do hurry!

Don’t forget to comment even if you forget to like… (I think I should put this as tagline, haha)

Have a very good day,

See you very soon…

      1. Well, if we talk about reality, they still get cut down even when they don’t talk . Actually, they do talk in their own language but we’re quite unable to listen to them or understand them! After all, they are living beings too!! 😦 😦

      1. Dah! I’m sorry I missed the italicized text. *forehead slap*
Would you think I’m crazy if I told you I’ve talked to trees? I swear I’m not (that) crazy, but when I was a child I literally hug the tree in my backyard and talk to it. In case you are wondering, the tree never talked back, but I like to think in some way it heard me.
That said, if a tree did literally speak to me, I would be ecstatic. Also, I probably wouldn’t believe it unless it happened again.

  2. Yes my friend it is all about the journey which we have started from unconscious divinity to consciousness and knowing who we really are, not this illusion but the reality. Superb post Harsh and great motivational speakers and spiritual masters only know what and where we need to go. πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

  3. Amazing and so true. We must focus more on the journey than the end.
Anyways, if I discovered a tree who could talk, I would ask it what it has seen/felt in its lifetime and if it has any advice for me from seeing other people’s failures.

      Wow, that’s a very nice question…
He will probably tell you that people give up… or maybe he’ll tell you that they dream about their goals in his shelter but they don’t live their dream… 😊😊

  7. Well! If I get a talking tree then I will surely get his suggestions on all those tricks I used to disturb my younger brother, but he is so kind, he is used to say that he enjoy whatever I do and ask when I don’t? He is just opposite of mine, an introvert shy sweet bhai. And now your post absolutely we should enjoy the journey the reward itself become its beautiful destination! Thanks for sharing! πŸ’Ž

      1. I am so sorry Di, but I don’t think I will be able to afford another social account as that will impact my study time. And I am very easily distracted by these things. And since it’s 11 and that too pcmb, I gotta work much harder.
