The Blind Illusion! #2

“Well, Sir” said the Lieutenant, “Something is happening in the city that asks for your attention. Officer Kell told me that an unusual disturbance is observed in the west of the city. We suspect that the third prisoner is behind the explosion of the cotton plant in the west. Our guards have sealed the area and the investigation didn’t bring us no good.”

Mark Estern rose from his seat, and put on his brown leather jacket. “Some truths are unseen even if we gaze in the eyes of it. I think we just need to shift our focus to see things clearly.” He put on his black hat and looked at his watch. “Lieutenant, I guess it’s time to put things under control. Let’s capture him, he won’t run again.” His eyes locked with her, “I won’t let him.”

As Estern twisted the key, the engine roared, and soon they were off to the west of the city.

“Where did you go after our meeting in the cabin?” said Julia, the subordinate of Officer Estern.

“Just went for another meeting, with old friends.” said Mark, with a smirk on his face.

Just after he got to know about the explosion in the west, Mark rose from his seat and told his lieutenant, Julia to wait for him at the gates of the Central Headquarters. With his shoes tapping on the solid floor, he descended the stairs. Showing his Identity Card which was scanned by a detector machine, he entered in a long narrow path.

The air was stiff here, and the darkness in the cells hid the faces of the criminals, the enemies of the peace. Officer Estern moved without any hesitation, even after hearing the screams of the criminals that he caught and left here to rot for the sins they had committed. But these noises didn’t have any effect on a man of his kind. He moved forward with the bold steps. After walking halfway through the narrow corridor, he came to halt and pressed his hand on the wall on the left side.

“Permission Granted” a voice announced, with a chill tone like of a robot. “Welcome, Colonel Mark Estern”

A smile showed up on his face. There were times when he used to come here just to enjoy such a pleasant welcome. But today, he was here for a purpose, rather unpleasant. The wall divided with a single thin line that broadened until it opened a way to another corridor. Estern took a step in and entered. With high security, even a stone wasn’t allowed to move from its place. Walking through the narrow path, he came across some similar faces who never dared to look him in the eye again, after they were defeated by him. The smile was now wider, as he walked to the end of the path.

He stopped in front of a cell, his destination. He slid his identity card in, and walked in the dark and small prison. The room was so small that you could touch both the opposite walls, one with your hand and one with your feet. But no one was inside this room. The prison was empty, but a glass jar filled with water, kept right in the centre of the room.

Truth has a strange habit of slipping away of your hands, just a few moments before your catching it.

      1. Oh I liked it if it’s what I am thinking! Just don’t want to spoil anything. Untill next one I’ll just keep on second guessing! There are some elements of science fiction too. So I have to just wait and see what else you have in store.

      2. Well it’s great if your guess is right! Not too much of science fiction I want to include in this story. Sci Fi is a HUGE genre, that’s why I won’t dare touch it, lol.
Thanks for your support, keep waiting and guessing till the next one… 😊

      1. Call me Mark Estern for now. Lol loved the way you portray your characters and the setting. That small chamber whose walls can be touched one by your hands one by your foots. Great. And that jar of water. I knew it was going to be useful for the narrative but was left amazed when she came out of it.
